Both rigid plastics and soft hydrogels find ample applications in engineering and medicine but bear their own disadvantages that limit their broader applications. Bonding these mechanically dissimilar materials may resolve these limitations, preserve their advantages, and offer new opportunities as biointerfaces. Here, a robust adhesion strategy is proposed to integrate highly entangled tough hydrogels and diverse plastics with high interfacial adhesion energy and strength.

Introduction: Congenital Tracheal Stenosis (CTS) with complete cartilaginous rings is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition in paediatric patients. Currently, the most common approach is slide tracheoplasty (ST) with sternotomy under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Intending to make the procedure less invasive and consider the variety of associated conditions, we have tailored the approach to our patients, who were treated by a multidisciplinary airway team.

Background And Purpose:  We aimed to determine sex differences for periprosthetic joint infections after primary arthroplasty of the hip, knee, ankle, and shoulder in osteoarthritis patients in an international perspective.

Methods:  This is a multinational combined arthroplasty registry study. Each arthroplasty registry performed Cox-regression analysis of their data and reported the crude and adjusted hazard ratios (HR) with an a priori designed data form.

Article Synopsis
  • - Aspiration pneumonia (AP) is a significant health concern, particularly among older adults and hospitalized patients, resulting from pathogens entering the lungs through gastric aspiration.
  • - Common risk factors for AP include swallowing difficulties, silent aspiration, and poor oral hygiene, especially prevalent in frail elderly individuals with multiple health issues.
  • - The review emphasizes the lack of clear diagnostic criteria for AP and the importance of developing better diagnostic tools and treatment methods, as the incidence is expected to rise with an increasing elderly population.
