Blood coagulation is a highly regulated injury response that features polymerization of fibrin fibers to prevent the passage of blood from a damaged vascular endothelium. A growing body of research seeks to monitor coagulation in microfluidic systems but fails to capture coagulation as a response to disruption of the vascular endothelium. Here we present a device that allows compression injury of a defined segment of a microfluidic vascular endothelium and the assessment of coagulation at the injury site.

Background: In UK maternity care, racialized women have worse experiences and clinical outcomes than White women. Midwife-led birth settings (MLBS), including home births and midwife-led units, both freestanding and alongside hospitals, are all available as choices for low-risk women in the UK. MLBS deliver optimal outcomes for low-risk women with uncomplicated pregnancies, including for racialized women, and can offer culturally specific care, possibly mitigating existing social inequalities.

Background: UK maternity policy advocates a choice of birthplace in an obstetric-led unit (OU), a midwife-led unit (MLU) or at home. Although robust evidence supports the safety of birth in midwife-led settings, particularly for women with uncomplicated pregnancies, most births are in the OU. Women and babies from ethnic minority communities experience major health disparities and inequitable care, but there is limited research examining birthplace choices through an ethnicity lens.

This study aims to develop and validate a Midwifery Interventions Classification (MIC), which is an evidence-based, standardized taxonomy and classification of core midwifery interventions based on a salutogenic perspective for maternity care. This study described the consensus process up to the results regarding the validation of the MIC through a two-round Delphi survey involving three panels of stakeholders: Midwives, Healthcare Researchers, and Maternity Service Users. The resulting MIC comprises 135 core midwifery interventions classified into Direct Midwifery care (n = 80 interventions), Indirect Midwifery Care (n = 43 interventions), and Community Midwifery Care (n = 12 interventions), reaching an overall consensus rate among experts equal to 87%.
