Fasting During the First Year of Transplantation: Is it Safe?

During the month of Ramadan 1417H we studied 14 patients all transplanted with live related kidneys. All the patients were transplanted between one and seven months before the month of Ramadan. All the patients were on azathioprine and prednisolone and the mean plasma creatinine level was 95 +/- 15 micromol/L.

[Recurrent pneumothorax in asthma attacks].

The clinical disturbances associated with attacks of asthma may be aggravated and maintained by the occurrence of pneumothorax. In such cases preventing recurrences is part of the management of asthma. We report the cases of 2 young patients who presented with 3 successive episodes of pneumothorax during asthmatic attacks.

[Potentiation by clofibride of the heparin-induced clearing reaction (intravascular hydrolysis of neutral lipids), in hyperlipemic rabbits].

A 16 days clofibride treatment in hyperlipaemic rabbit (fat supply), reduces hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia. Heparine clearing reaction, performed on the 17th day, with the daily clofibride dose ingested in one time, is increased. The exaggerated intravascular lipids hydrolysis could explain, in part, the hypolipaemic action of clofibride.
