Enhanced wet grip with North American river otter paws.

The semi-aquatic North American river otter (Lontra canadensis) has the unique challenge of navigating slippery algae-coated rocks. Unlike other river otter species, each rear paw of the North American river otter has a series of soft, circular, and keratinized plantar pads similar to the felt pads on the boots of fly fishermen. Surrounding these soft pads is a textured epidermal layer.

Analysis of unknown (unlabeled/mislabeled) drug products for active pharmaceutical ingredients and related substances by an international mail facility satellite laboratory equipped with rapid screening devices.

Two chemists employed a three-device rapid screening "toolkit" consisting of a handheld Raman spectrometer, transportable mass spectrometer, and portable Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer at an international mail facility (IMF) satellite laboratory to examine unknown (unlabeled/mislabeled) products for the presence of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Phase I of this project previously demonstrated that this toolkit was the most effective collection of instruments for identifying APIs in product types collected at IMFs during a nationwide mail blitz and Phase II of this project previously demonstrated that results generated using the toolkit during a satellite laboratory pilot program were as reliable as those generated by a full-service library when two or more of these instruments identify an API. This study (Phase III) described the results of the satellite laboratory toolkit during production mode and encompassed the period ranging from June 2021 through December 2022.

Radiation Safety Education and Practices in Urology: A Review.

Radiation safety education is important as fluoroscopy is commonly used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Exposure to high levels of ionizing radiation is associated with an increased risk of cancer and other adverse health effects; therefore, it is essential that urologists and trainees are educated on the safe use of radiation. Unfortunately, radiation education and occupational safety is not standardized for this group and there are currently no review studies examining radiation safety for urologists in the clinical setting.

Transconjunctival XEN45 implantation for secondary open-angle glaucoma management in a pediatric patient with WAGR syndrome.

Purpose: To report a case of XEN45 gel stent implantation in a pediatric patient with WAGR syndrome as a successful surgical intervention in the management of multifactorial secondary open-angle glaucoma.

Observations: A 6-year-old female with a history of WAGR syndrome, bilateral congenital aniridia, pseudophakia OD and glaucoma OD, was referred for a XEN45 gel stent OD. IOP was persistently elevated at 24 mm Hg despite two glaucoma medications.
