Substructure-Specific Antibodies Against Fentanyl Derivatives.

Structural variants of the synthetic opioid fentanyl are a major threat to public health. Following an investigation showing that many derivatives are poorly detected by commercial lateral flow and related assays, we created hapten conjugate vaccines using an immunogenic virus-like particle carrier and eight synthetic fentanyl derivatives designed to mimic the structural features of several of the more dangerous analogues. Immunization of mice elicited strong antihapten humoral responses, allowing the screening of hundreds of hapten-specific hybridomas for binding strength and specificity.

Innovations in Short-Read Sequencing Technologies and Their Applications to Clinical Genomics.

Background: Massively parallel sequencing (MPS) of nucleic acids has been a transformative technology for basic and applied genomic science, increasing efficiencies and decreasing costs to enable studies of unprecedented scope and impact. In clinical settings, these technological and scientific advances have led to the development of tests that are increasingly fast, comprehensive, and more frequently employed. Practitioners of genomic medicine have applied these tools across clinical settings, including diagnosis of inherited disorders and cancers and infectious disease detection and surveillance.

Identifying Patients at Risk for Cardiometabolic and Chronic Diseases by Using the Exercise Vital Sign to Screen for Physical Inactivity.

Introduction: Physical inactivity is a major health risk factor for multiple chronic diseases and early death. Despite evidence supporting diet and physical activity behavioral counseling interventions, physical inactivity is rarely measured or managed in primary care. A need exists to fully explore and demonstrate the value of screening patients for physical inactivity.

Comparison of In-Person and Virtual Implementations of an Obesity Prevention Culinary Nutrition Education Program for Family Care Providers.

Start Strong, a 4-week culinary nutrition education, obesity prevention program designed for rural family care providers in low-income areas of Minnesota, was initially an in-person training and recently adapted into a virtual version. Using a quasi-experimental design, this study examined within group and between group (in-person versus virtual) changes in culinary skill confidence and familiarity with food assistance programs after Start Strong participation. Additionally, we examined post-program participant experiences.

Implementing Cancer Registry Data With the PCORnet Common Data Model: The Greater Plains Collaborative Experience.

Purpose: Electronic health records (EHRs) comprise a rich source of real-world data for cancer studies, but they often lack critical structured data elements such as diagnosis date and disease stage. Fortunately, such concepts are available from hospital cancer registries. We describe experiences from integrating cancer registry data with EHR and billing data in an interoperable data model across a multisite clinical research network.
