Objective: Fetal pleural effusions are often associated with underlying genetic etiologies; however, data describing the incidence of genetic abnormalities are limited. We evaluated the rate of genetic abnormalities in pregnancies affected by primary unilateral and bilateral fetal pleural effusion.

Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study of all patients evaluated at our center with a prenatal diagnosis of primary fetal pleural effusion from 2010 to 2022.

Objective: Prenatal open neural tube defect (ONTD) repair is performed to decrease the risk of needing treatment for hydrocephalus after birth and to preserve motor function. Some centers may not consider patients to be candidates for surgery if severe ventriculomegaly is present and there is no expected benefit in risk for hydrocephalus treatment. This study sought to compare the postnatal outcome of fetuses with ONTD and severe ventriculomegaly (ventricular width ≥ 15 mm) that underwent prenatal repair with the outcome of fetuses with severe ventriculomegaly that underwent postnatal repair and fetuses without severe ventriculomegaly (< 15 mm) that underwent prenatal repair.

The adenylate cyclase system of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae contains many proteins, including the CYR1 polypeptide, which is responsible for catalyzing the formation of cyclic AMP from ATP, RAS1 and RAS2 polypeptides, which mediate stimulation of cyclic AMP synthesis by guanine nucleotides, and the yeast GTPase-activating protein analog IRA1. We have previously reported that adenylate cyclase is only peripherally bound to the yeast membrane. We have concluded that IRA1 is a strong candidate for a protein involved in anchoring adenylate cyclase to the membrane.
