Ovine anaplasmosis is causing relevant economic losses in Spain due to icteric carcass condemnation in lambs. Anaplasma ovis infection occurs through grazing sheep that transfer ticks to their offspring. This study compared the efficacy of deltamethrin and cypermethrin pour-on treatments for tick control.

[Selective pituitary resistance to thyroid hormone in a patient treated with amiodarone].

Selective pituitary resistance to thyroid hormones is a syndrome that involves inadequate response of thyroid-stimulating hormone to changes in thyroid hormones. Unlike generalized resistance syndromes, this entity produces central hyperthyroidism and clinical thyrotoxicosis. Sometimes the disease may not be properly diagnosed and is treated with drugs with harmful effects on the thyroid, such as amiodarone, hampering diagnosis and possibly exacerbating the disorder.

Usefulness of an index score as a predictor of hepatic fibrosis in obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery.

Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of a non-invasive clinical score to predict liver fibrosis in the steatosis associated with morbid obesity.

Patients And Methods: We included 88 patients, who underwent bariatric surgery in the Sanitary Area of León, Spain, and who showed a liver biopsy with steatosis greater than 5%. This is a retrospective study in which the rate of fibrosis is calculated from tests performed during the preoperative period, and is then compared to data from intraoperative hepatic biopsies.
