Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra that primarily affects movement control. Neuroinflammation plays a pivotal role in driving the disease's progression. The persistent inflammatory state in the brain exacerbates neuronal damage, creating a cycle that perpetuates the neurodegenerative process.

Recently, the AAV9P31 stood out as the most efficient version among a library of peptide-displaying capsids selected in C57BL/6 mice using RNA-driven biopanning. In this work we have characterized in detail its biodistribution in different mouse strains (C57BL/6 and Balb/c), as well as in Sprague Dawley rats and non-human primates (Macaca fascicularis).

In this work we intend to investigate this connection through the use of an immunostimulatory odorant like menthol, analyzing its impact on the immune system and the cognitive capacity in healthy and Alzheimer's Disease Mouse Models. We first found that repeated short exposures to menthol odor enhanced the immune response against ovalbumin immunization.
