Probiotic metabolites, known as postbiotics, have received attention due to their wide variety of promoting health effects. One of the most exciting postbiotic is gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), widely produced by lactic acid bacteria, due to its benefits in health. In addition, the performance of the biosynthesis of GABA by Lactiplantibacillus plantarum could be modulated through the modification of fermentation parameters.

Aims: The EVOLVE FHU trial demonstrated non-inferiority of six-month late loss with two dose formulations of SYNERGY, a novel bioabsorbable polymer everolimus-eluting stent (EES) compared with the durable polymer PROMUS Element (PE) EES. The current analysis describes the six-month IVUS and clinical results through two years from the EVOLVE FHU trial. Methods and results: EVOLVE recruited 291 patients from 29 centres.

Differences in helminth infections between captive and wild spur-thighed tortoises Testudo graeca in southern Spain: a potential risk of reintroductions of this species.

Although the spur-thighed tortoise, Testudo graeca, is one of the most widely distributed species of tortoises, its natural populations are threatened through its whole range. Particularly at south-eastern Spain, the species is mainly threatened by habitat destruction and over-collection, given that this chelonian has been traditionally considered an appreciate pet. As south-eastern Spanish wildlife recovery centers shelter hundreds of captive animals mainly coming from illegal trade or captive-bred, there is a strong debate about what to do with these animals: maintaining them in captivity all along their lives or reintroducing them to wildlife.

Comparison of detection of arrhythmias in patients with chronic heart failure secondary to non-ischemic versus ischemic cardiomyopathy by 1 versus 7-day holter monitoring.

The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic sensitivity of 1-day Holter monitoring versus 7-day Holter monitoring (7DH) to detect atrial and ventricular arrhythmias in a population of stable patients with chronic heart failure and left ventricular dysfunction. Sixty-three consecutive stable patients with chronic heart failure with left ventricular ejection fractions < or =50% were included. Blood samples were obtained, the Minnesota Living With Heart Failure Questionnaire was administered, and echocardiography, 6-minute walk tests, and 7DH were performed at enrollment.
