Intact protein analysis using mass spectrometry (MS) is an important technique to characterize and provide a comprehensive overview of protein complexity. It is also the basis of "top-down" approaches in proteomics to describe the proteoforms of single protein's post-translational modifications (PTMs). MS-based analysis of intact proteins benefits from high-resolution separations prior to electrospray ionization.

Pathogenic variants in either the mitochondrial or nuclear genomes are associated with a diverse group of human disorders characterized by impaired mitochondrial function. Within this group, an increasing number of families have been identified, where Mendelian genetic disorders implicate defective mitochondrial RNA biology. The PDE12 gene encodes the poly(A)-specific exoribonuclease, involved in the quality control of mitochondrial non-coding RNAs.

Objective:  Identifying underlying social risk factors for neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission is important for designing interventions to reduce adverse outcomes. We aimed to determine whether a patient's exposure to community-level stressors as measured by the social vulnerability index (SVI) is associated with NICU admission.

Study Design:  Retrospective cohort study (2014-2018) of patients delivering a liveborn ≥ 22 weeks' gestation at a quaternary care center.
