This paper reports the development of dosimeters based on plastic scintillating fibers imaged by a charge-coupled device camera, and their performance evaluation through irradiations with the electron Flash research accelerator located at the Centro Pisano Flash Radiotherapy. The dosimeter prototypes were composed of a piece of plastic scintillating fiber optically coupled to a clear optical fiber which transported the scintillation signal to the readout systems (an imaging system and a photodiode). The following properties were tested: linearity, capability to reconstruct the percentage depth dose curve in solid water and to sample in time the single beam pulse.

Many biological studies involve inferring the evolutionary history of a sample of individuals from a large population and interpreting the reconstructed tree. Such an ascertained tree typically represents only a small part of a comprehensive population tree and is distorted by survivorship and sampling biases. Inferring evolutionary parameters from ascertained trees requires modeling both the underlying population dynamics and the ascertainment process.

  • Treatment with Gilteritinib, a FLT3 inhibitor, led to complete regression of the sarcoma without significant side effects, suggesting it could be an effective therapy for similar relapses.

Spiky/hollow metal nanoparticles have applications across a broad range of fields. However, the current bottom-up methods for producing spiky/hollow metal nanoparticles rely heavily on the use of strongly adsorbing surfactant molecules, which is undesirable because these passivate the product particles' surfaces. Here we report a high-yield surfactant-free synthesis of spiky hollow Au-Ag nanostars (SHAANs).
