Background: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has improved the clinical management of HIV-1 infection. However, little is known about how the latest ART recommendations affect the heterogeneity of HIV-1 reservoir size.

Methods: We used a complete statistical approach to outline parameters underlying diversity in HIV-1 reservoir size in a cohort of 892 people with HIV-1 (PWH) on suppressive ART for >3 years.

Objective: To compare the effects of first-line antiretroviral treatment (ART) with dolutegravir plus lamivudine (DTG+3TC) versus DTG plus emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (FTC/TAF) on the evolution of the HIV-1 reservoir and immune activation biomarkers in people with HIV (PWH).

Methods: DUALITY was a 48-week, single-center, randomized, open-label clinical trial in ART-naïve PWH. Participants were randomized (1:1) to receive ART with DTG+3TC (2DR group) or DTG+FTC/TAF (3DR group).

Article Synopsis
  • - Viremic non-progressors (VNPs) are a rare group of HIV-1 individuals who maintain normal CD4 T cell counts despite high viral loads, resembling natural hosts of simian immunodeficiency virus, but the reasons for this are not fully understood.
  • - A study using single-cell and multiomics methods examined 16 VNPs and 29 HIV+ progressors, revealing genetic factors like CCR5Δ32 heterozygosity and lower CCR5 expression, alongside reduced intestinal disruption and immune responses in VNPs.
  • - The research highlights various traits contributing to the immune stability in VNPs, indicating important insights for potential HIV treatment strategies in the future.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), continues to challenge global health despite widespread vaccination efforts, underscoring the need for innovative strategies to combat emerging infectious diseases effectively. Herein, LCB1-NPs and LCB3-NPs are engineered as a novel class of protein-only nanoparticles formed through coiled coil-driven self-assembly and tailored to interact specifically with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The multivalency of LCB1-NPs and LCB3-NPs offers a strategy for efficiently targeting and neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 both in solution and when immobilized on surfaces.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on pediatric patients with serious neurological conditions managed in the Pediatric Palliative Care Integral Unit, particularly those experiencing movement disorders where regular treatments fail.
  • A retrospective review of clinical records from September 2012 to February 2021 identified the outcomes of intrathecal baclofen therapy (IBT) in 8 patients with various neurological issues, highlighting a significant improvement in muscle tone stabilization.
  • The findings indicate that IBT not only benefits patients with non-progressive ailments like cerebral palsy but also those with progressive conditions, as all patients experienced a clinical stability period termed the "honeymoon" phase, which averaged 14.4 months.
