Many studies have shown that patients with autoimmune disease present a hypoactive hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, but the results are controversial. Our objective was to study differences in stress response axis activity between patients with autoimmune disease and healthy people. The study sample consisted of 97 women divided into four groups: 37 healthy women (HW), 21 with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 21 with Sjögren's syndrome (SS), and 18 with systemic sclerosis (SSc).

This study aimed to compare vascular involvement, hand functionality, and upper limb disability between Raynaud's phenomenon participants and controls. Also, we analyzed the relationships between vascular impairment, mobility, and strength with disability in this Raynaud population. We conducted a case-control study with fifty-seven participants.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes in the elasticity and temperature of the patellar tendon produced by the application of a radiofrequency at 448 kHz (CRMR) just after and 7 days after the intervention. An open controlled clinical trial was used with participants being recruited from a private clinic. The experimental group ( = 22) received a 448 kHz CRMR treatment while the control group ( = 22) did not receive any type of intervention.

Article Synopsis
  • Fibromyalgia (FM) is a complex condition characterized by chronic pain and fatigue, with unknown causes, affecting many individuals, particularly women.
  • A study was conducted comparing serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in women with FM to healthy controls, along with their skin and core body temperatures.
  • The findings indicated a mild positive correlation between VEGF levels and skin temperature in certain areas of the hands in FM patients, but no definitive conclusions on the relationship between VEGF and vasodilation were reached.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "M Carmen Garcia-Rios"

  • - M Carmen Garcia-Rios's recent research primarily focuses on the physiological alterations and functional impairments related to systemic conditions such as autoimmune diseases, fibromyalgia, and Raynaud's phenomenon, aiming to understand the underlying mechanisms and patient experiences.
  • - Key findings include the investigation of stress response differences between autoimmune disease patients and healthy individuals, highlighting a controversial hypoactive HPA axis, as well as examining vascular involvement and functionality in patients with Raynaud's phenomenon.
  • - Garcia-Rios also explores the effects of interventions like radiofrequency therapy on tendon properties, and the relationships between serum biomarkers (VEGF and CGRP) and peripheral vascular function in women with fibromyalgia, contributing valuable insights into these complex health issues.
