Listeriosis: A Rare Cause of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Infection.

Listeriosis is a series of diseases caused by the bacteria . Typically presenting with mild symptoms of diarrhea, fever, and myalgias, it can, in some cases, assume an invasive form with systemic involvement. Cardiac involvement in listeriosis is rare, with very few reports describing the involvement of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED), which hampers the development of conclusive recommendations regarding CIED management or antibiotic courses.

The interaction between dietary bioactive compounds and mycotoxins in food safety is crucial due to the potential health risks raised by mycotoxins and the protective functions of bioactive substances. This study is focused on red beetroot (Beta vulgaris), a rich source of polyphenols and betalains, incorporated into a daily consumption food such as bread, to examine its effects on the bioavailability of mycotoxins using an in vitro Caco-2 cell model. This study investigates how these compounds affect the bioavailability of mycotoxins, specifically ochratoxin A (OTA), aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), and zearalenone (ZEA), which are known to compromise intestinal barrier function and nutrient absorption.

Selective collection of absorbent hygienic products: The results of a pilot test and waste characterization.

Absorbent hygiene products (AHP) are single-use materials that are discarded after use. These products include diapers for babies and adults, menstrual pads, absorbent pads, and other personal hygiene items that represent a significant proportion of municipal solid waste (MSW). In this research, the impact of a pilot campaign for the separation of these AHP in a neighborhood of a city in eastern Spain has been studied.

Mayaro virus (MAYV) is the causative agent of Mayaro fever, which is characterized mainly by acute fever and long-term severe arthralgia, common manifestations of other arbovirus infections, making the correct diagnosis a challenge. Besides, MAYV infections have been reported in South America, especially in Brazil. However, the lack of vaccines or specific antiviral drugs to control these infections makes the search for new antivirals an urgent need.
