Article Synopsis
  • PSMA PET/CT has become a key imaging technique for prostate cancer, offering advantages over traditional imaging methods and PSA serum levels, especially in monitoring treatment responses in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).
  • A systematic search of medical literature revealed that PSMA PET imaging significantly improves sensitivity and specificity for detecting metastases, aiding in accurate staging and diagnosing distant spread of the disease.
  • Ongoing prospective trials are expected to provide further evidence supporting the prognostic benefits of PSMA PET/CT in mCRPC, underscoring its growing importance in clinical practice.

Introduction: Peritoneal ultrafiltration (PUF) has been proposed as an additional therapeutic option for refractory congestive heart failure (RCHF) patients. Despite promising observational studies and/or case report results, limited clinical trial data exist, and so far, PUF solutions remain only indicated for chronic kidney diseases. In this article, we described a multicenter, randomized, controlled, unblinded, adaptive design clinical trial, about to start, investigating the effects of PolyCore™, an innovative PUF solution, in the treatment of RCHF patients.

In the last years, PSMA-PET imaging and multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) have improved the clinical management of prostate cancer (PCa) patients. Currently, mpMRI is recommended by the EAU (European Association of Urology) guidelines for the primary diagnosis of PCa, whereas PSMA-PET is reserved for disease staging, particularly in high risk localized or locally advanced disease, as well as for biochemical recurrence after surgery. Nevertheless, several studies have explored the added value of PSMA-PET in other clinical scenarios, including primary diagnosis and especially for the detection of clinically significant PCa (csPCa).

Aim: To evaluate the relevance of incidental prostate [F]FDG uptake (IPU) and to explore the potential of radiomics and machine learning (ML) to predict prostate cancer (PCa).

Methods: We retrieved [F]FDG PET/CT scans with evidence of IPU performed in two institutions between 2015 and 2021. Patients were divided into PCa and non-PCa, according to the biopsy.
