Background And Objective: Temporomandibular disorders, of multifactorial etiology, refer to a series of pathologies that affect the temporomandibular joint and the associated musculature of the orofacial region and are the result of alterations in the physiological relationships of the stomatognathic system, responsible for functions such as chewing, phonation and swallowing. They produce, among other symptoms, mainly pain, which affects the quality of life of the patients who suffer from them. To alleviate the discomfort of neuromuscular pathology in the orofacial region, various therapeutic strategies are employed, ranging from non-invasive to more invasive methods.

Trends in Specific Family Refusals for Pediatric Organ and Tissue Donation: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: When a family decides to donate the organs or tissues of their child with brain death, it is necessary to consider which organs or tissues will be donated. This phenomenon presents an ethical dilemma that is underexplored in the scientific literature, making it essential to examine this context to understand how refusals occur within donations.

Objective: To analyze the rates and trends of specific refusals for each organ and tissue from pediatric donors with brain death occurring between 2001 and 2020 in an Organ Procurement Organization in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.

Tackling antineoplastic drugs' contamination in healthcare settings: New insights on surface cleaning approaches.

Effective decontamination of hospital surfaces is crucial to protect workers from antineoplastic drugs (ADs) since dermal absorption is the main exposure route to these hazardous medicinal products. Sampling after daily cleaning in oncologic settings from a tertiary hospital was initially performed and exhibited low contamination levels; however, cyclophosphamide was still found (up to 957 pg/cm) above the guidance value (100 pg/cm) in four locations, evidencing the need to properly assess and update the cleaning protocols. Then, cleaning efficiencies of six solutions and different protocols were evaluated (including, for the first time, four commercial cleaning solutions/disinfectants not designed specifically for AD removal) after deliberate contamination of three model surfaces with 13 pharmaceuticals: bicalutamide, capecitabine, cyclophosphamide, cyproterone, doxorubicin, etoposide, flutamide, ifosfamide, imatinib, megestrol, mycophenolate mofetil, paclitaxel, and prednisone.

Herpetic Endotheliitis Induced Interface Fluid Syndrome 16 years After Laser in Situ Keratomileusis.

Purpose: To report a case of herpes simplex virus (HSV) endotheliitis inducing acute interface fluid syndrome in a patient with a remote history of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).

Methods: Case report and literature review.

Results: A 51-year-old man with a history of LASIK 16 years prior presented with unilateral HSV endotheliitis and was found to have acute interface fluid syndrome secondary to endothelial decompensation.
