Background: The genetic determinants of peripartum depression (PPD) are not fully understood. Using a multi-polygenic score approach, we characterized the relationship between genome-wide information and the history of PPD in patients with mood disorders, with the hypothesis that multiple polygenic risk scores (PRSs) could potentially influence the development of PPD.

Methods: We calculated 341 PRSs for 178 parous mood disorder inpatients affected by major depressive disorder (MDD) or bipolar disorder (BD) with ( = 62) and without ( = 116) a history of PPD.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (MD1) is the most common form of muscular dystrophy in adults. MD1 is caused by the expansion of CTG repeats in the DMPK gene and affects various organs beyond muscles. We present a case of a patient with MD1 exhibiting features of metabolic syndrome (MetS), including insulin resistance and dyslipidemia.

Aim: One-third of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) do not achieve full remission and have high relapse rates even after treatment, leading to increased medical costs and reduced quality of life and health status. The possible specificity of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) neurobiology is still under investigation, with risk factors such as higher inflammatory markers being identified. Given recent findings on the role of choroid plexus (ChP) in neuroinflammation and hippocampus in treatment response, the aim of the present study was to evaluate inflammatory- and trophic-related differences in these regions along with ventricular volumes among patients with treatment-sensitive depression (TSD), TRD, and healthy controls (HCs).

Background: The neurobiological differences between women who have experienced a peripartum episode and those who have only had episodes outside of this period are not well understood.

Methods: Sixty-four parous female patients with major depressive disorder who had either a positive (n = 30) or negative (n = 34) history of peripartum depression (PPD) underwent magnetic resonance imaging acquisition to obtain structural brain images. An independent 2-sample t test comparing patients with and without a history of PPD was performed using voxel-based morphometry analysis.
