AChR-blocking antibodies and complement system dynamics: evaluating their interplay and clinical implications in myasthenia gravis.

Background: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder characterised by autoantibodies (abs) targeting proteins at the neuromuscular junction, primarily the acetylcholine receptor (AChR). While the role of AChR-binding abs is well-established, the pathogenicity and clinical relevance of AChR-blocking antibodies in MG, and their association with complement system, remain less understood.

Aims: This study aims to provide comprehensive insights into the prevalence and interplay of AChR-blocking antibodies and the complement system in an Argentinian MG cohort, investigating their relationships with disease activity.

Lobatozoum woodi n. sp. (Digenea: Didymozoidae) parasitizing Euthynnus alletteratus (Scombriformes: Scombridae) in the coast of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The aim of this study was to describe a new species of Didymozoidae (Trematoda) found in the mesentery of Euthynnus alletteratus (Rafinesque) off Cabo Frio, in the coastal area of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Thirty specimens of E. alletteratus were obtained between August 2023 and June 2024, directly from traders who sell fresh fish in markets.

Increase Toll-like receptors 2 and 4 in apical periodontitis of rats with chronic liver disease.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of liver fibrosis (LF) on the expression of Toll-like receptors (TLR) 2 and 4 in apical periodontitis (AP) in Wistar rats. Forty Wistar rats were allocated in the following groups (n = 10): C-control; AP-apical periodontitis; LF-liver fibrosis; AP + LF-rats with AP and LF. LF and AP were induced by established methodologies.

Impact of primary tumor resection in the management of metastatic well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors of the small bowel and pancreas.

Patients with gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine tumors (NET) often present with advanced disease. Primary tumor resection (PTR) in the setting of unresectable metastatic disease is controversial. Most studies evaluating the impact of PTR on overall survival (OS) have been performed using large population-based databases, with limited treatment related data.
