Assessment of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in 231 essential hypertensive patients (61 year'old) treated in a department of internal medicine. Incidence of LVH defined by echocardiography: 34%. Better relationship between LVH and ambulatory blood pressure (BP) monitoring than with casual BP.

The right ventricular ejection fraction is rarely measured, as conventional diagnostic methods (radiology, echocardiography) are confronted with the problem of representing the right ventricle as a simple tridimensional geometrical model. This is not necessary with the radio-isotopic techniques. However, all those used for the measurement of right ventricular ejection fraction lead to important methodological problems.

Differential staining of calcified tissues in plastic embedded microtome sections by a modification of Movat's pentachrome stain.

Movat's pentachrome I stain has been adapted and modified as a stain for undecalcified bone sections. After embedding in methyl methacrylate, this procedure yields consistently good results, with an excellent and colorful contrast between mineralized and unmineralized compartments of both cartilage and bone. In addition, osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and other cells and tissue components can easily be differentiated.
