Background: Glycerol has long served the topical prescriptive and personal care industry as a versatile and functional active and inactive ingredient. In skin care products, it acts primarily as an emollient, softening the skin through robust humectant hydration action. Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters K-20W (K-20W) have been shown to increase skin hydration and improve sensory skin "feel" when included in a variety of skin, hair, and nail care cosmetic/personal care formulations.

Erythema caused by occlusion of 3 concentrations of surfactant was quantified in vivo using a modified spectrophotometer. Standard chamber irritation test sites were evaluated objectively using the spectrophotometer and subjectively by trained observers. There was a good relationship between the instrumental and visual evaluations.

Six shampoos at at least ten different concentrations were added to culture dishes containing the SIRC cells and were administered at a dose of 0.01 ml directly to the corneal surface of the albino rabbit eye.

Test substances at different concentrations were added to culture dishes containing the rabbit corneal cells or were administered at a dose of 0.01 ml directly to the corneal surface of albino rabbits.
