Third stage of the kangaroo method: exclusive breastfeeding and growth of preterm and/or low birth weight newborns.

Objective: To evaluate the rates of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and growth of preterm and/or low birth weight newborns during the third stage of the Kangaroo Method (TSKM), at discharge.

Methods: Retrospective study in a reference public maternity hospital between Jan/2014 and Dec/2017, including the preterm (less than 37 weeks) and/or low birth weight (less than 2500 g) newborn infants. Information was collected from medical records.

Cognitive assessment in preterms by Bayley-III: development in the first year and associated factors.

Objective: To analyze the cognitive development of preterm infants at six and 12 months of corrected age and the associations with perinatal and socioeconomic factors.

Methods: Cognitive development of 40 infants (20 preterm and 20 full-term) at six and 12 months of age was evaluated using the Bayley-III scale. Correlations between cognitive outcome and associated factors were assessed using Spearman correlation.

Can tactile reactivity in preterm born infants be explained by an immature cortical response to tactile stimulation in the first year? A pilot study.

This study aimed to compare preterm (PT) and full-term (FT) infants' adaptive behavior and functional cortical response to tactile stimulus, as measured by Test of Sensory Functions in Infants and functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS). Outcome measures were taken at 6 (PT = 26/FT = 21 infants) and 12 months (PT = 15/FT = 14 infants). At 6 months, poorer tactile reactivity was observed in PT, but not confirmed at 12 months.

Association between early onset of skin-to-skin contact and mother-infant interaction at hospital discharge and six months of corrected age among preterm infants.

Objective: To compare mother-infant interaction between hospital discharge and at six months of corrected age of infants born ≤32 weeks and investigate the association between the onset of skin-to-skin contact and the difference in mother-infant interaction between discharge and six months of corrected age (CA) among preterm infants.

Material And Methods: Prospective observational study, in which 72 mother-infant dyads were evaluated. Preterm newborns (born with gestational age ≤ 32 weeks of gestational age) from two public maternity hospitals were assessed by means of video macro analysis of the mother-infant interaction according to the parameters adopted by the Mother-Baby Observation Protocol 0-6 (POIMB), at hospital discharge and at six months of corrected gestational age.

Neuropsychomotor development in children born preterm at 6 and 12 months of corrected gestational age.

Objective: To assess the incidence of neuropsychomotor developmental delay at 6 and 12 months of corrected gestational age in children born at 32 gestational weeks or less.

Methods: A descriptive and prospective study was carried out at two public maternity hospitals. Between April 2017 and January 2019, we assessed 133 children without any known risk factors for neuropsychomotor developmental delay.
