Postoperative multiple perforations of the small bowel in a patient with COVID-19 - case report.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) presented quite a diverse symptomatology, in addition to respiratory symptoms, while other clinical signs such as thrombosis, postoperative hemorrhages, acute kidney or liver failure, digestive disorders (vomiting and diarrheal stools) were also reported. We present the case of a patient diagnosed with transverse colon neoplasm and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection, who presented to the Emergency Room (ER) of the Emergency County Clinical Hospital, Craiova, Romania, with a clinical picture of low intestinal occlusion. Surgery was decided and a right hemicolectomy extended to the left, with terminal ileostomy performed.

Primitive Resectable Small Bowel Cancer Clinical-Pathological Analysis: A 10-Year Retrospective Study in a General Surgery Unit.

Small bowel cancer is very rare; although the incidence of adenocarcinoma and other anatomopathological forms has increased recently, the diagnosis and treatment of this disease are still debatable because of the clinical heterogeneity and the absence of studies including a large number of patients. We performed a retrospective study over 10 years in which we analyzed the clinical, imaging, and anatomopathological data of 46 patients hospitalized in a surgery clinic and diagnosed with small bowel cancer (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum). After clinical assessment of these patients, including complications (occlusion, bleeding, and perforation), the CT scan established the diagnosis in over 90% of the cases of the complicated form of the disease.

Anastomotic Leakage after Colorectal Surgery: Risk Factors, Diagnosis and Therapeutic Options.

Unlabelled: Anastomotic leakage (AL) is the most severe and devastating complication of colorectal surgery. The objectives of this study were to identify the risk factors involved in the development of AL, evaluate diagnostic methods and explore therapeutic options in case of colorectal cancer surgery.

Material And Methods: we conducted a retrospective study on 28 AL recorded after 315 elective colorectal cancer surgeries performed in 1st Surgery Clinic of Craiova over an 8-year period (2014-2022).

Solitary fibrous tumor developing in the right retroperitoneal space.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that is quite aggressive and prone to recurrence and metastasis. Most SFTs are benign, but the identification of the histological features that define the dedifferentiation of SFTs can predict the aggressiveness of the tumor and the presence of a reserved prognosis. We present a rare case of conventional SFTs with features of malignancy and highlight the diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties related to this case.
