Impairments in facial expression recognition in patients with euthymic bipolar disorders using the facial emotions recognition test.

Background: Patients with bipolar disorders (BD) have significant impairments in Facial Expression Recognition (FER), an essential social skill for effective social interactions. While the Facial Emotions Recognition Test, 54 photographs by Gaudelus (TREF-54g) has been used in patients with schizophrenia, no study has evaluated FER using this test in BD patients. The TREF-54g meets the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD) criteria for assessing FER.

Validation of the French version of the Global Functioning: Social and Global Functioning: Role Scales in adolescents and young adults seeking help in early intervention clinics.

Aim: Social and role functioning impairments characterize patients along the schizophrenia spectrum, but the existing evaluations tools do not specifically address younger population issues. The Global Functioning Social (GF:S) and Global Functioning Role (GF:R) scales have been specifically designed for that purpose. The aim of this study is to establish the reliability and concurrent validity of the French version of GF:S and GF:R scales.

Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography scans in patients with alcohol use disorder.

Background: Diminished uptake of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) has been observed in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD) but little statistical contrast of the regional brain deficits has been undertaken. This study examined prefrontal cortex inter-regional Brodmann area differences to delineate patterns associated with behavioral, neurotransmitter, and general toxicity hypotheses of cerebral involvement in AUD.

Methods: We obtained data from FDG positron emission tomography (PET) and anatomical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for 87 patients with AUD and 41 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers.

Background: People suffering from schizophrenia cannot easily access employment in European countries. Different types of vocational programs coexist in France: supported employment, sheltered employment (ShE), and hybrid vocational programs. It is now acknowledged that the frequent cognitive impairments constitute a major obstacle to employment for people with schizophrenia.
