A pilot study of posttraumatic stress and nonadherence in pediatric liver transplant recipients.

Background: Symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) were described in survivors of life-threatening diseases, the trauma being the experiences associated with the disease or its treatment. Their prevalence in liver transplant recipients is unknown. Based on clinical observations, we hypothesize that a significant proportion of pediatric liver transplant recipients suffers from PTSD symptoms.

Horner's syndrome in dogs and cats: 100 cases (1975-1985).

The medical records of 74 dogs and 26 cats with Horner's syndrome (HS) that were admitted to the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine between January 1975 and October 1985 were reviewed. In dogs, but not cats, HS was associated significantly (P less than 0.01) with increasing age.

Measuring bovine mammary gland blood flow using a transit time ultrasonic flow probe.

Lactating cattle were used to validate a transit time ultrasonic blood flow metering system for measuring mammary gland arterial blood flow. Blood flow probes were surgically placed around the right external pudic artery. An electromagnetic flow probe was implanted in tandem with the ultrasonic probe in two cows for comparative measurements.

Mechanisms involved in the adrenaline-induced blockade of milk ejection in dairy cattle.

To elucidate mechanisms by which epinephrine (epi) blocks milk ejection in cattle, blood serum oxytocin (OT) concentrations were measured in four heifers before, during, and after milking following either intrajugular injection of 0.85% saline (S) or epi (3 mg). S did not affect OT concentrations.
