Gene variants in eating disorders. Focus on anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder.

Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder, have a deep social impact, concluding with death in cases of severe disease. Eating disorders affect up to 5% of the population in the industrialized countries, but probably the phenomenon is under-detection and under-diagnosis. Eating disorders are multifactorial disorders, resulting from the interaction between environmental triggers, psychological factors, but there is also a strong genetic component.

Physical activity for health.

Physical activity plays a substantial role in maintaining people's good health and mental wellbeing, but that is not all: not only it positively affects the individuals' mental and physical health, but a lack of physical exercise exerts a negative impact also on the overall economy of a nation. In addition, physical inactivity not only increases the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCD), but also contributes significantly to the increased morbidity and mortality in patients suffering from these diseases. On the contrary, physical activity reduces the risk of NCDs - such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and cancer - in a dose-dependent manner; regular exercise is also associated with many health benefits and delayed mortality.

Local excision in rectal cancer patients with major or complete clinical response after neoadjuvant therapy: a case-matched study.

Purpose: To assess the long-term oncological outcomes in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who underwent neoadjuvant therapy followed by local or total mesorectal excision.

Methods: Patients with locally advanced rectal adenocarcinoma who received neoadjuvant therapy from 2005 to 2017 were evaluated. Those with major or complete clinical response underwent a full-thickness local excision.

The current practice of cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for colorectal peritoneal metastases: Results of a worldwide web-based survey of the Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International (PSOGI).

Background: At present, selected patients with resectable colorectal peritoneal metastases (CRC-PM) are increasingly treated with a combination therapy of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). The aim of this study was to investigate the current worldwide practice.

Methods: HIPEC experts from 19 countries were invited through the Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International (PSOGI) to complete an online survey concerning their personal expertise and current hospital and countrywide practice.

Laparoscopic splenectomy for sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation of the spleen.

Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) is a rare, benign, proliferative vascular lesion that arises from the splenic red pulp. Most patients with SANT have no clinical symptoms and are discovered incidentally on imaging. There are no definitive radiological signs and a distinction from other splenic diseases, and malignant processes remain difficult.
