Estrogenic compounds are widely released to surface waters and may cause adverse effects to sensitive aquatic species. Three hormones, estrone, 17β-estradiol and 17α-ethinylestradiol, are of particular concern as they are bioactive at very low concentrations. Current analytical methods are not all sensitive enough for monitoring these substances in water and do not cover mixture effects.

Nowadays a recognized need for accurate observations of atmospheric aerosols (AEs) and reactive gases (RGs) exists in the framework of regional, national and global near-surface networks based on permanent or mobile measurement stations. In this context, a paramount and not-trivial issue is related to the correct execution of continuous sampling of ambient air and its subsequent distribution to measurement analyzers hosted inside the stations. Sampling artifacts must be minimized for obtaining reliable pictures of ambient air composition.

Comparison of fine and coarse fractions in terms of sources and dynamics is scarce in southeast Mediterranean countries; differences are relevant because of the importance of natural sources like sea spray and Saharan dust advection, because most of the monitoring networks are limited to PM. In this work, the main seasonal variabilities of sources and processes involving fine and coarse PM (particulate matter) were studied at the Environmental-Climate Observatory of Lecce (Southern Italy). Simultaneous PM and PM samples were collected between July 2013 and July 2014 and chemically analysed to determine concentrations of several species: OC (organic carbon) and EC (elemental carbon) via thermo-optical analysis, 9 major ions via IC, and 23 metals via ICP-MS.

Introduction: The aim of our study is to compare two different surgical procedures, lymphatic vessels and arterioles sparing microsurgical inguinal varicocelectomy (LASMIV) without delivery of the testis and LASMIV with delivery of the testis and ligature of collateral and gubernacular veins.

Materials And Methods: Seventy adolescents suffering from varicocele and reduction of the ipsilateral testicular volume greater than 20% were prospectively assigned to two homogenous groups according to age and Tanner stage. The patients, operated from 2008 to 2013, were randomized to undergo either LASMIV without delivery of the testis or LASMIV with delivery and ligature of collateral and gubernacular veins.
