Percutaneous tumor ablation has become a widely accepted and used treatment option for both soft and hard tissue malignancies. The current standard-of-care techniques for performing these minimally invasive procedures require providers to navigate a needle to their intended target using two-dimensional (2D) US or CT to obtain complete local response. These traditional image-guidance systems require operators to mentally transpose what is visualized on a 2D screen into the inherent three-dimensional (3D) context of human anatomy.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on the diverse types of FOXA1 genetic alterations found in prostate cancer and their implications for clinical management.
  • Researchers classified FOXA1 mutations into four distinct classes, each with specific characteristics and prognostic significance based on survival outcomes.
  • Results indicated that certain FOXA1 alterations, particularly class 1A, were linked to improved survival rates, while other classes, especially class 2 and amplified versions, were associated with poorer outcomes and higher risks in treatment response.

Introduction: Recent work has revealed that clonal hematopoiesis (CH) is associated with a higher risk of numerous age-related diseases, including ischemic stroke, however little is known about whether it influences stroke outcome independent of its widespread effects on cardiovascular disease. Studies suggest that leukocytes carrying CH driver mutations have an enhanced inflammatory profile, which could conceivably exacerbate brain injury after a stroke.

Methods: Using a competitive bone marrow transplant model of -mediated CH, we tested the hypothesis that CH would lead to a poorer outcome after ischemic stroke by augmenting brain inflammation.

Quantifying temporal changes in species occurrence has been a key part of ecology since its inception. We quantified multidecadal site occupancy trajectories for 18 bird species in four independent long-term, large-scale studies (571 sites, ~1000 km latitude) in Australia. We found evidence of a year × long-term study interaction in the best-fitting models for 14 of the 18 species analysed, with differences in the temporal trajectories of the same species in multiple studies consistent with non-stationarity.

Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) is a myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by peripheral blood monocytosis and bone marrow dysplasia. In approximately one-fourth of cases, CMML can demonstrate progression to acute myeloid leukemia (AML), referred to as AML ex CMML. We present a 58-year-old woman with a past medical history of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) who demonstrated 24% bone marrow blasts on a repeat biopsy obtained two years after being diagnosed with CMML.
