The plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) is released from glucose-challenged human pancreatic β cells and stimulates insulin secretion. We investigated whether plasma ABA increased during oral and intravenous glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs and IVGTTs) in healthy human subjects. In all subjects undergoing OGTTs (n=8), plasma ABA increased over basal values (in a range from 2- to 9-fold).

Surgery is still the gold standard in breast cancer. Also if the elective treatment, thanks to the adjuvant therapy, ha became more conservative than once was, breast surgery remains, in the mind of the woman affected by breast cancer, a demolitive surgery. Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the protective effects of 17beta-estradiol (E2) on liver cells against damage caused by deoxycholic acid (DCA), a bile acid.
  • E2 and the hydrophilic bile acid, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), were tested in HepG2 and WRL-68 cell lines, showing that high concentrations of E2 and UDCA can prevent cell death and apoptosis induced by DCA.
  • The results suggest E2's protective effects against DCA-induced liver cell damage may function through mechanisms independent of nuclear estrogen receptors, indicating a need for further research.

Although several biomarkers have been tested, Dukes' (or TNM) stage at diagnosis is still considered the only prognostic factor of clinical relevance in colorectal cancer. Among the various biomarkers, the fraction of cells engaged in DNA synthesis has been extensively investigated as an indicator of tumor aggressiveness. Bromodeoxyuridine (BUdR) is a non-radioactive thymidine analogue which is incorporated into DNA during the S-phase of cycling cells.
