Article Synopsis
  • Measuring deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) on the neutron is essential for understanding the nucleon's structure through generalized parton distributions (GPDs).
  • Neutron targets help complement data obtained from polarized protons, particularly in determining the poorly understood GPD E, which is crucial for analyzing quark contributions to nucleon spin.
  • The experiment utilized a longitudinally polarized electron beam at Jefferson Lab and the CLAS12 detector to measure DVCS on the neutron for the first time, providing new insights into quark-flavor separation of relevant Compton form factors.

Objective: Identifying persons with HIV (PWH) at increased risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) is complicated because memory deficits are common in HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) and a defining feature of amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI; a precursor to AD). Recognition memory deficits may be useful in differentiating these etiologies. Therefore, neuroimaging correlates of different memory deficits (i.

In this narrative essay, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner describes the challenge of treating three survivors of a terror attack, all of whom were presenting various symptoms of acute stress disorder (ASD). Working in new and exceptionally demanding circumstances - with thousands of people injured in an extensive and direct terror attack, with relatives taken hostages and entire communities evacuated from their homes - the practitioner looked for an effective treatment strategy to alleviate symptoms of stress response. He found it in the interface between TCM and the function of the autonomic nervous system.

Article Synopsis
  • Veterans with psychiatric conditions like PTSD have a double the risk of developing dementia compared to those without, highlighting the link between mental health and cognitive decline.
  • A study of 179 cognitively unimpaired Veterans found that about 21% exhibited subtle cognitive difficulties (Obj-SCD), with higher rates of PTSD reported among those individuals.
  • The research suggests that PTSD is associated with cognitive efficiency issues in older Veterans, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions and further exploration of these cognitive challenges.

Objective: The authors examined the interaction between apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) Val66Met alleles on neuropsychological functioning among veterans with histories of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

Methods: Participants were 78 veterans with mTBI (85% males; mean±SD age=32.95±7.
