Background: Hospital outbreaks caused by Mycobacteroides abscessus complex are a major cause for concern in vulnerable patients such as the cardiothoracic transplant population.
Aim: To describe the outbreak investigation and mitigation steps undertaken to address an increase in healthcare-associated M. abscessus complex cases in an inpatient cardiothoracic transplant population.
poses a global public health challenge, causing multiple outbreaks within healthcare facilities. Despite advancements in strain typing for various infectious diseases, a consensus on the genetic relatedness threshold for identifying transmission in local hospital outbreaks remains elusive. We investigated genetic variations within our local isolate collection using whole-genome-based single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) phylogenetic analysis.

The current treatment of advanced caries relies on the replacement of the inflamed or necrosed dental pulp with an inert filling material. This leads to a functional but non-vital tooth, which lacks the ability to sense dental tissue damage, and to protect from further bacterial attack.

Objectives: To develop a population pharmacokinetic (PK) model with data from the largest polymyxin B-treated patient population studied to date to optimize its dosing in hospitalized patients.
Methods: Hospitalized patients receiving intravenous polymyxin B for ≥48 hours were enrolled. Blood samples were collected at steady state and drug concentrations were analysed by liquid chromotography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
