The Smart Grid (SG) aims to transform the current electric grid into a "smarter" network where the integration of renewable energy resources, energy efficiency and fault tolerance are the main benefits. This is done by interconnecting every energy source, storage point or central control point with connected devices, where heterogeneous SG applications and signalling messages will have different requirements in terms of reliability, latency and priority. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-transformed B-lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) are used to prepare human EBV-specific T lymphocytes (EBV-CTL) in vitro. Within an LCL, up to 5-7% the cells release infectious EBV, and this has fostered safety concerns for therapeutic applications because of the exposure of T cells to EBV. The release of infectious viruses can be prevented by ganciclovir, but this drug may seriously affect LCL growth.

We propose a new type of surface wave lens that is made of a circular in-plane inhomogeneous metamaterial slab and numerically demonstrate its capability to focus surface waves at optical frequencies. This approach can achieve a smaller focal spot size than the previously demonstrated Ag plasmonic lens. The use of inhomogeneous metamaterials is to decrease the high losses that are usually associated with metamaterials that support large surface k vectors by reducing the propagation distance in high loss metamaterials.
