Six years of progress in the oral biopharmaceutics area - A summary from the IMI OrBiTo project.

OrBiTo was a precompetitive collaboration focused on the development of the next generation of Oral Biopharmaceutics Tools. The consortium included world leading scientists from nine universities, one regulatory agency, one non-profit research organisation, three small/medium sized specialist technology companies together with thirteen pharmaceutical companies. The goal of the OrBiTo project was to deliver a framework for rational application of predictive biopharmaceutics tools for oral drug delivery.

Frequent detection of cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr virus in cervical secretions from healthy young women.

Objective: To investigate asymptomatic shedding from the uterine cervix of five human herpes viruses: cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 and type 2 and varicella zoster virus (VZV), in young women.

Design: A descriptive study.

Setting: Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Clinical and microscopic signs of cervicitis and urethritis: correlation with Chlamydia trachomatis infection in female STI patients.

Chlamydia trachomatis is among the most prevalent genital infections and is an important cause of tubal factor infertility. The majority of infected females are asymptomatic. Evidence on the reliability of signs of inflammation used to predict chlamydia in female patients is inconsistent.

Viral and bacterial aetiologies of male urethritis: findings of a high prevalence of Epstein-Barr virus.

Male urethritis is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs). However, the aetiology is still unclear in many cases. In this study the prevalences of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), HSV-2, cytomegalovirus (CMV), adenovirus, Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium and Ureaplasma urealyticum (including subtyping) were investigated.
