Background/objective: There is strong evidence that the tripartite interaction between glucose homeostasis, gut microbiota, and the host immune system plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We reported previously that peanut shell extract (PSE) improves mitochondrial function in db/db mice by suppressing oxidative stress and inflammation in the liver, brain, and white adipose tissue. This study evaluated the impacts of PSE supplementation on glucose homeostasis, liver histology, intestinal microbiome composition, and the innate immune response in diabetic mice.

As a practicing clinical nurse, a phenomenon I experienced at times was the sudden acute sense that something was going wrong with a person in care at the sub-critical unit in the hospital where I worked. In fact, many hospital nurses have their story of "something's not right" in relation to a person they were caring for/with, in that the day started with them on a coherent path to healing and then suddenly the nurse feels something is going very wrong, and yet there is nothing observable that would justify such a feeling. This feeling would be called "intuition" by many nurses, a concept most notably theorized in nursing by Patricia Benner in her extensive program of scholarship.

Objective: Tobacco smoking is an independent risk factor for stroke. In acute and chronic settings, it affects cerebral blood flow, mean systolic velocities, changes of velocities in response to metabolic challenges, pulsatility, and resistance indices in otherwise healthy smokers.
