The authors described the localization of neuron-specific enolase in the intestinal wall in Crohn´s disease. We have used samples obtained by biopsy from the colon lining of five people affected by Crohn's disease for our examination. We have processed samples using the formol paraffin technique.

Relationship of mismatch repair proteins and survivin in colon polyps and carcinomas.

Mismatch repair genes (MMR) play an essential role in DNA repair. MMR mutations predominantly in MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and rarely in PMS1, may cause the production of abnormally short or inactivated proteins. The antiapoptotic protein survivin functions in the inhibition of apoptosis, regulation of cell division and also enhances angiogenesis.

Immunohistochemical characterization of urothelial carcinoma.

From the archive of BB Biocyt company, 32 urinary bladder carcinomas (urothelium carcinomas, UC) and 7 cases of chronic cystitis were selected and examined in semiserial sections for the following antigens: 1) cell proliferation marker Ki-67 (expressed in the nuclei), 2) cell cycle regulator p16/INK4a polypeptide (expressed in the cytoplasm and nuclei), 3) urothelium marker p63 (expressed in the nuclei), 4) cytokeratin 7 (CK7). 5) cytokeratin 20 (CK20) and 6) high molecular weight cytokeratin (HMWCK). Invasive urothelium carcinomas showing a high grade dysplasia (invasive HG UC) comprised over the half (20 out of 32) of the investigated tumours.

Unusual occurrence of rare lipid-rich carcinoma and conventional invasive ductal carcinoma in the one breast: case report.

A 56-year-old woman noticed a palpable mass in her left breast during self-examination. Patient was admitted to our hospital and malignant bifocal tumour was diagnosed by ultrasonography, digital mammography, magnetic resonance, and core-cut biopsy. The patient underwent planned conservative surgery (biquadrantectomy) with a sentinel node examination, but after results of the frozen section with positive resection margins and positive sentinel lymph nodes subsequent mastectomy with axillary lymph node dissection were realized.
