Article Synopsis
  • This study introduces implantable, biodegradable fiducial markers (FMs) designed for enhanced imaging using near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) and X-ray techniques, composed of a radiopaque core and fluorescent shell made of poly(l-lactide--caprolactone).
  • The research evaluated the properties of these FMs using approved contrast agents, demonstrating effective contrasting capabilities in imaging and revealing that hydroxyapatite (HAp) improved initial radiopacity while slightly affecting stability in certain formulations.
  • Tissue responses around the FMs indicated that they did not cause significant adverse effects, suggesting they are suitable for use in NIRF-guided tumor surgeries and X-ray-guided radi

Purpose: To establish the surgical, demographic and histopathological factors associated with inaccurate sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) identification using indocyanine green (ICG) and near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging in uterine and cervical neoplasms during both open and laparoscopic surgery.

Methods: We reviewed patients with atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH), clinical stage I and II cervical cancer or uterine malignancies who underwent primary surgery with SLN mapping between September 2015 and January 2018. An analysis of patients' demographics, tumor factors and surgical approach was conducted.
