Revisiting Thomson's model with multiply charged superfluid helium nanodroplets.

We study superfluid helium droplets multiply charged with Na+ or Ca+ ions. When stable, the charges are found to reside in equilibrium close to the droplet surface, thus representing a physical realization of Thomson's model. We find the minimum radius of the helium droplet that can host a given number of ions using a model whose physical ingredients are the solvation energy of the cations, calculated within the helium density functional theory approach, and their mutual Coulomb repulsion energy.

Concordance Between the Expert Reading of Biparametric-MRI and the Nonexpert Multiparametric-MRI for the Detection of Clinically Significant Prostate Cancer: Clinical Implications.

Purpose: Prostate-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) interpretation is challenging, with expertise playing a crucial role. Biparametric MRI (bpMRI) is gaining popularity in experienced centers due to its time and cost advantages over multiparametric MRI (mpMRI). We aim to analyze concordance between nonexpert radiologist PI-RADS from mpMRI and expert radiologist PI-RADS from bpMRI, and its clinical implications.

Intestinal ABC transporters: Influence on the metronomic cyclophosphamide-induced toxic effect in an obese mouse mammary cancer model.

Metronomic chemotherapy (MCT) is a cancer therapeutic approach characterized by low dose drug chronic administration and limited or null toxicity. Obesity-induced metabolic alterations worsen cancer prognosis and influence the intestinal biochemical barrier, altering the Multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (Mrp2) and Multidrug resistance protein-1 (Mdr-1), efflux pumps that transport chemotherapeutic drugs. Obesity and cancer are frequent co-morbidities; thus, our aim was to evaluate the effectiveness and toxicity of MCT with cyclophosphamide (Cy) in obese mice with metabolic alterations bearing a mammary adenocarcinoma.

Time-resolved solvation of alkali ions in superfluid helium nanodroplets.

The sinking of alkali cations in superfluid 4He nanodroplets is investigated theoretically using liquid 4He time-dependent density functional theory at zero temperature. The simulations illustrate the dynamics of the buildup of the first solvation shell around the ions. The number of helium atoms in this shell is found to linearly increase with time during the first stages of the dynamics.

Differences in survival and recurrence of colorectal cancer by stage across population-based European registries.

Recurrence after colorectal cancer resection is rarely documented in the general population while a key clinical determinant for patient survival. We identified 8785 patients with colorectal cancer diagnosed between 2010 and 2013 and clinically followed up to 2020 in 15 cancer registries from seven European countries (Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, Estonia, France, Italy, and Spain). We estimated world age-standardized net survival using a flexible cumulative excess hazard model.
