InCrowd-VI: A Realistic Visual-Inertial Dataset for Evaluating Simultaneous Localization and Mapping in Indoor Pedestrian-Rich Spaces for Human Navigation.

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) techniques can be used to navigate the visually impaired, but the development of robust SLAM solutions for crowded spaces is limited by the lack of realistic datasets. To address this, we introduce InCrowd-VI, a novel visual-inertial dataset specifically designed for human navigation in indoor pedestrian-rich environments. Recorded using Meta Aria Project glasses, it captures realistic scenarios without environmental control.

Chemical biology fluorescent tools for investigation of the multidrug resistant P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression in tumor cells.

Selective P-glycoprotein (P-gp)-targeted fluorescent conjugates are desirable tools to investigate the role of P-gp, a protein strongly implicated in mediating multidrug resistance and a major cause of chemotherapy failure. Herein, we report the development of 25 novel fluorescent small-molecule conjugates with varying physicochemical and optical properties, and their biological evaluation in a cell model as P-gp targeted constructs. This investigation revealed relationships between molecular structure and cell behavior and uncovered the capacity of conjugates with varying fluorophores to selectively target P-gp.

Finding Comfort in Discomfort… Reflecting on Stories Told.

Introduction: The 2022 Presidential Address for the Association for Academic Surgery was focused on better understanding the personal and professional challenges faced by surgeons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: As part of this work, we embarked on a listening tour, inviting surgeons from all over the country to tell us their stories. This led to forming a panel of five selected participants based on how their stories crosscut many of the most prevalent themes during those conversations.

What We Talk About When We Talk About Coping: A Qualitative Study of Surgery Resident's Coping After Complications and Deaths.

Objective: To explore how surgery residents cope with unwanted patient outcomes including postoperative complications and death.

Background: Surgery residents face a variety of work-related stressors that require them to engage in coping strategies. Postoperative complications and deaths are common sources of such stressors.

The Best Gift You Could Give a Resident: A Qualitative Study of Well-Being Resources and Use Following Unwanted Outcomes.

Unlabelled: In recent years, there has been increasing focus on the well-being of resident physicians. Considering the persistent problem of burnout and attrition particularly among surgical trainees, this is a well-warranted and laudable area of focus. However, despite the widespread adoption of resources available to residents through individual institutions, there is little understanding of how and why these resources are engaged or not during particularly vulnerable moments, such as following an unwanted patient event including postoperative complications and deaths.
