21-hydroxylase autoantibodies (21OHAb) are the gold standard immune marker to identify patients with clinical or subclinical autoimmune Addison's disease (AAD). No assessment of interlaboratory concordance has been made for 21OHAb measurement. Serum samples from 267 patients with primary adrenal insufficiency and from 83 healthy control subjects were distributed to four independent laboratories that determined presence and titer of 21OHAb, by using radiobinding assays with either in vitro translated 35S-radiolabelled or 125I-radiolabelled autoantigen.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: Steroid-producing cell autoantibodies (SCAs) directed against 21-hydroxylase autoantibodies (21OHAbs), 17alpha-hydroxylase autoantibodies (17OHAb), and cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme (side-chain cleavage autoantibodies, P450sccAb) characterize autoimmune primary ovarian insufficiency (SCA-POI). The aim of the study was to analyze IgG subclass specificity of autoantibodies related to adrenal and ovarian autoimmunity.
Design: We studied 29 women with SCA-POI, 30 women with autoimmune Addison's disease (AAD) without POI, and 14 patients with autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1 (APS1).
Management of HCV infection and related liver disease with treatment currently available lead to a sustained virological response in 20% of patients using interferon (IFN)-alpha mono-therapy and approximately 40-45% in those on combination therapy with ribavirin.The aim of the present investigation was to compare the effect of consensus interferon alphacon-1 (C-IFN), and IFN-alpha 2b plus ribavirin, in patients relapsing after treatment with interferon alone. Design, Subjects And Measurements: Body mass index (BMI) was measured in 44 231 subjects, age 3-17.5 y, and a household questionnaire was filled out by the parents of 12 143 subjects to collect the following data: subjects, only child or firstborn status, prematurity, birth weight, type of feeding until the fifth month, menarche status in girls; parents, age at the time of the subject's birth; BMI (mean of the two parents) at the time the subject was measured, mother's age of menarche, socioeconomic status.
The amount of copies of HCV-RNA and count of CD8(+) lymphocytes was retrospectively evaluated in 326 patients: sampling was performed in basal condition, during treatment with alpha-IFN (n=232) and post-treatment follow-up, and at the same time points in untreated patients (n=94).
