Background & Aims: Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is caused by mutations in ferrochelatase which inserts iron into protoporphyrin-IX (PP-IX) to generate heme. EPP is characterized by PP-IX accumulation, skin photosensitivity, cholestasis, and end-stage liver disease. Despite available drugs that address photosensitivity, treatment of EPP-related liver disease remains an unmet need.

Iatrogenic aortocoronary dissection (IAD) during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is an uncommon and potentially life-threatening complication. Extension of dissection to the ascending aorta, despite early surgical management, carries a high morbidity and mortality risk. Depending on the severity of dissection, the approach to management ranges from monitoring to surgical intervention; more extensive dissections into the ascending aorta, typically more than 40 mm above the coronary ostium, are considered an indication for surgery.

Of particular interest in ligand development are efforts toward incorporating apical elements that exhibit little if any electron donicity, to enhance the electrophilic nature of a positioned active oxidant (, metal-oxo, -nitrene). The tripodal ligand TMGtrphen-Arene has been synthesized, featuring an arene platform 1,3,5-substituted with phenylene arms possessing tetramethylguanidinyl (TMG) residues.

Study Design: A retrospective study comparing the incidence of EA-TEF between a low-consanguineous Jewish population and a high-consanguineous Bedouin population. All patients were treated at Soroka University Medical Center, the only tertiary medical center in southern Israel.
