Readiness to implement contingency management to promote PrEP initiation and adherence among people who inject drugs: results from a multi-site implementation survey.

Background: Contingency management (CM), an incentive-based intervention to encourage target behaviors, effectively promotes medication adherence. However, efforts to extend CM to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) have been lacking. As part of a randomized clinical trial to promote HIV Prevention among people who inject drugs (PWID), we examined the readiness of staff in community-based organizations serving PWID to implement CM for PrEP uptake and adherence in this population.

First record of Culex pipiens (Diptera: Culicidae) in Alberta: expanding distributions and ecotype patterns in a western Canadian province.

Culex pipiens is an invasive mosquito found in temperate regions globally. It is considered among the most important disease vectors worldwide and is responsible for the transmission of a range of pathogens, including West Nile virus, avian malaria, Saint Louis encephalitis, and filarial worms. Throughout its northern temperate range, this mosquito is found in 2 ecotypes: form pipiens and form molestus.

Using an SMS to improve bowel cancer screening: the acceptability and feasibility of a multifaceted intervention.

Background: The Australian National Bowel Cancer Screening Program sends an immunochemical faecal occult blood test to Australians aged 50-74 years to screen for bowel cancer, but uptake is low (40.9%). The SMARTscreen trial demonstrated that sending a short messaging services (SMS) prompt from the participant's general practitioner (GP) increased the proportion of kit returns by 16.

Molecular basis for plasma membrane recruitment of PI4KA by EFR3.

The lipid kinase phosphatidylinositol 4 kinase III α (PI4KIIIα/PI4KA) is a master regulator of the lipid composition and asymmetry of the plasma membrane. PI4KA exists primarily in a heterotrimeric complex with its regulatory proteins TTC7 and FAM126. Fundamental to PI4KA activity is its targeted recruitment to the plasma membrane by the lipidated proteins EFR3A and EFR3B.

Fear and Anxiety in Schizophrenia: A Focus on Development, Assessment, and Mechanisms.

In people with schizophrenia, anxiety is highly prevalent and related to numerous negative outcomes; unfortunately, anxiety is both underreported and understudied in schizophrenia. The current review highlights the importance and utility of assessing anxiety in schizophrenia by addressing four main questions: (1) What does anxiety look like throughout the development of schizophrenia?; (2) How do we measure anxiety in schizophrenia?; (3) What are the mechanisms underlying anxiety in schizophrenia; (4) How do we treat anxiety in schizophrenia? We also provide take-home points and propose future directions for the field. We hope this emphasis on the critical role of anxiety in schizophrenia will help researchers appropriately identify the presence of anxiety, better address these symptoms, and improve the lives of people at risk for or experiencing psychosis.
