Clinical sequelae of gut microbiome development and disruption in hospitalized preterm infants.

Aberrant preterm infant gut microbiota assembly predisposes to early-life disorders and persistent health problems. Here, we characterize gut microbiome dynamics over the first 3 months of life in 236 preterm infants hospitalized in three neonatal intensive care units using shotgun metagenomics of 2,512 stools and metatranscriptomics of 1,381 stools. Strain tracking, taxonomic and functional profiling, and comprehensive clinical metadata identify Enterobacteriaceae, enterococci, and staphylococci as primarily exploiting available niches to populate the gut microbiome.

Investigating Cu(I) binding to model peptides of N-terminal Aβ isoforms.

Amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides and copper (Cu) ions are each involved in critical biological processes including antimicrobial activity, regulation of synaptic function, angiogenesis, and others. Aβ binds to Cu and may play a role in Cu trafficking. Aβ peptides exist in isoforms that vary at their C-and N-termini; variation at the N-terminal sequence affects Cu binding affinity, structure, and redox activity by providing different sets of coordinating groups to the metal ion.

Impact of SARS-CoV-2 Infection on Humoral and Cellular Immunity in a Cohort of Vaccinated Solid Organ Transplant Recipients.

The aim of the present study was to determine humoral and T-cell responses after four doses of mRNA-1273 vaccine in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients, and to study predictors of immunogenicity, including the role of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection in immunity. Secondarily, safety was also assessed. Liver, heart, and kidney transplant recipients eligible for SARS-CoV-2 vaccination from three different institutions in Barcelona, Spain were included.

Development and Implementation of Educational Material by Nurses for Parents/Caregivers of Children With Cancer: A Peruvian National Study.

Education for parents and caregivers of children with cancer is one of the fundamental roles of nurses to avoid complications, provide quality care, promote adherence to treatment and maintain basic standards of care. This study aimed to design educational material for parents and caregivers of children with cancer in Peru on general information about childhood cancer and its care. Within the framework of the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer in Peru, a multicenter working group was convened by the Peruvian Ministry of Health.
