Article Synopsis
  • α,β-Unsaturated carbonyls are noted for their genotoxicity and were studied during the chocolate-making process using advanced techniques.
  • Levels of specific compounds, such as 2-phenylbut-2-enal and 5-methyl-2-phenylhex-2-enal, significantly increased during chocolate production, particularly due to processes like roasting and conching.
  • Despite their presence, the detected levels of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes in chocolate were not considered a health risk, unlike higher amounts of the genotoxic compound furan-2(5)-one found in other baked goods.

Few studies have investigated the neuropsychological profile of Hearing Loss (HL) subjects and the effects of hearing-aid on cognitive decline. We investigated the neuropsychological profile of HL patients at baseline and compared the neuropsychological profiles of patients with and without hearing-aid at 6 month. Fifty-six HL patients and 40 healthy subjects (HC) underwent neuropsychological and behavioral examination and were compared at baseline.

Objective: We used non-invasive high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) imaging to investigate embryonic brain development in a mouse model for neural tube defects (NTDs) and non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH).

Method: Using HFUS, we imaged embryos carrying loss of function alleles of Gldc encoding glycine decarboxylase, a component of the glycine cleavage system in mitochondrial folate metabolism, which is known to be associated with cranial NTDs and NKH in humans. We serially examined the same litter during the second half of embryonic development and quantified cerebral structures.

Introduction: The literature data show that relaxation practice is effective in reducing anxiety symptoms. Different techniques such as progressive muscular relaxation, autogenic training, applied relaxation and meditation have been evaluated independently for anxiety disorders. The question is to know whether the combination of various techniques may be of interest in the transdiagnostic treatment of anxiety disorders.
