Background: Household crowding is a longstanding focus of public health research; there is growing interest in its impact on dementia risk. In the US, household crowding is prevalent among low-income immigrant communities that have historically been excluded from dementia research. We evaluated the relationship between household crowding and neurocognitive performance among a novel cohort of middle-aged and primarily immigrant Latinas living in an underserved agricultural community and whether mental health or sleep duration might serve as potential mechanisms.

Balancing Activity and Stability through Compositional Engineering of Ternary PtNi-Au Alloy ORR Catalysts.

Achieving the optimal balance between cost-efficiency and stability of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts is currently among the key research focuses aiming at reaching a broader implementation of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). To address this challenge, we combine two well-established strategies to enhance both activity and stability of platinum-based ORR catalysts. Specifically, we prepare ternary PtNi-Au alloys, where each alloying element plays a distinct role: Ni reduces costs and boosts ORR activity, while Au enhances stability.

Varicellovirus bovinealpha (BoAHV) 1 and 5 are closely related neurotropic alphaherpesviruses with distinct neuropathogenic potential. BoAHV-5 causes meningoencephalitis in calves whereas encephalitis by BoAHV-1 infection is sporadic. the mechanisms underlying the differences in tropism and clinical outcomes of the infections are not yet completely understood.

Cuatrec. and (Kunth) Cass.: Chemical and Enantioselective Analyses of Two Unprecedented Essential Oils from Ecuador.

This study presents the first chemical and enantioselective analyses of essential oils (EOs) derived from the leaves of two endemic species, Cuatrec. and (Kunth) Cass., from Loja, Ecuador.
