The growing use of branched polymers in various industrial and technological applications has prompted significant interest in understanding their properties, for which accurate structure determination is vital. This work is the first instance where the macromolecular structures of dendrimers, linear polymers, and hyperbranched polymers with analogous 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid (bis-MPA) backbone groups were synthesized and analyzed via tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). When comparing the fragmentation pathways of these polymers, some unique and interesting patterns emerge that provide insight into the primary structures and architectures of each of these materials.

It has long been recognised that spreading ridges are kept in place by competing subduction forces that drive plate motions. Asymmetric strain rates pull spreading ridges in the direction of the strongest slab pull force, which partially explains why spreading ridges can migrate vast distances. However, the interaction between mantle plumes and spreading ridges plays a relatively unknown role on the evolution of plate boundaries.

The inability of solid polymer electrolytes to preserve strong mechanical strength with high ionic conductivity hinders the commercialization of lithium metal batteries (LMBs). The success of fabricating layer-by-layer (LbL)-assembled electrolytes has realized the application of flexible solid polymer electrolytes in electrochemical devices. Here, we demonstrate a rational strategy to construct solid electrolytes coated with multiple ultrathin layers of polyanions (poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate)) and polycations (linear poly(1-butyl-3-(4-vinylbenzyl)-1H-imidazolium chloride) (BVIC)/linear poly(PEG-VIC)/SiO--poly(PEG-VIC)) using an LbL assembly method.
