Hemorrhages are still considered a common cause of death and despite the availability of different hemostatic agents it is still necessary to develop more effective hemostats for bleeding managements in emergency situations. Herein, large-pores mesoporous silica microspheres (MSM) were synthesized, and their surface was modified to enrich the hydroxyls population with the aim of achieving a material with enhanced water adsorption capacity and high hemostatic ability. The success of surface modification was investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), which confirmed the increase in the amount of surface hydroxyl groups.

Ammonia electrosynthesis through the lithium-mediated approach has recently reached promising results towards high activity and selectivity in aprotic media, reaching high Faradaic efficiency (FE) values and NH production rates. To fasten the comprehension and optimization of the complex lithium-mediated nitrogen reduction system, for the first time a multivariate approach is proposed as a powerful tool to reduce the number of experiments in comparison with the classical one-factor-at-a-time approach. Doehlert design and surface response methodology are employed to optimize the electrolyte composition for a batch autoclaved cell.

Copper-exchanged ZSM-5 (Cu-ZSM-5) is a promising catalyst thanks to the Cu redox pair. A particular feature of this material consists in the presence of spontaneous isothermal oscillations which take place during NO decomposition reaction, depending on the operating conditions. In the present work, a set of five Cu-ZSM-5 catalysts was synthesised by three procedures and three different copper precursor concentrations: i) wet impregnation, ii) single ion exchange, and iii) double ion exchange.

Enabling green fabrication processes for energy storage devices is becoming a key aspect in order to achieve a sustainable fabrication cycle. Here, the focus was on the exploitation of the tragacanth gum, an exudated gum like arabic and karaya gums, as green binder for the preparation of carbon-based materials for electrochemical capacitors. The electrochemical performance of tragacanth (TRGC)-based electrodes was thoroughly investigated and compared with another water-soluble binder largely used in this field, sodium-carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC).

Different sol-gel synthesis methods were used to obtain four nanostructured mesoporous TiO samples for an efficient photocatalytic degradation of the emerging contaminant N-phenylurea under either simulated solar light (1 Sun) or UV light. Particularly, two TiO samples were obtained by means of as many template-assisted syntheses, whereas other two TiO samples were obtained by a greener template-free procedure, implying acidic conditions and, then, calcination at either 200 °C or 600 °C. In one case, anatase was obtained, whereas in the other three cases mixed crystalline phases were obtained.
