Bariatric surgery can improve metabolic dysfunction and inflammation linked to obesity, but its effects on immune B cell function are not well understood.
The study involved evaluating B cell composition in obese individuals before and after surgery, comparing them to lean controls to assess changes in immune response.
Results showed that surgery restored the balance of B cells but also increased certain inflammatory B cell subsets, indicating a distinct post-operative immune profile that does not fully mirror lean individuals.
