Aims: Atrial tachycardias are common after repair of atrial septal defect (ASD). Although ablation has shown promising results in the short and mid-term follow-up, little data regarding the very long-term success exist. Our aim was to assess very long-term follow-up in patients who have undergone electroanatomic-guided radiofrequency (RF) ablation of late-onset atrial arrhythmias after ASD surgery.

Bladder phaeochromocytomas are rare neuroendocrine neoplasms whose diagnosis can be missed in spite of their rather suggestive presentation. It is mandatory to collect a thorough medical history and to recognize their typical symptoms. Earliness per se genes are those that regulate flowering time independently of vernalization and photoperiod, and are important for the fine tuning of flowering time and for the wide adaptation of wheat to different environments. The earliness per se locus Eps-A(m)1 was recently mapped within a 0.8 cM interval on chromosome 1A(m)L of diploid wheat Triticum monococcum L.

The antihypertensive doxazosin is a selective alpha 1-adrenoceptor-blocking drug whose favorable impact on lipid metabolism is well known. A single-blind placebo-controlled crossover study was designed to determine whether antihypertensive treatment with doxazosin affects insulin sensitivity in diabetic, mildly hypertensive, non-obese patients. Twelve subjects (diastolic blood pressure, 98 +/- 1.

Essential hypertension is characterized by an insulin-resistance state that may be responsible for the increased atherogenesis typical of this disease. To investigate the effect on glucose and insulin metabolism of doxazosin, an antihypertensive drug whose favorable impact on lipid metabolism is well known, 10 newly diagnosed essential hypertensive patients of the same age and body mass index (BMI) were selected for our study. They underwent an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) with measurement of plasma insulin levels before and after a 6-month treatment period with doxazosin.
