Article Synopsis
  • The introduction highlights the rapid growth of point-of-care (POC) manufacturing for chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) modified T cells, particularly focusing on anti-CD20 CAR T cells for melanoma patients in a phase I clinical trial.
  • The methods used involved producing CD20 CAR T cells using a second-generation lentiviral vector on the CliniMACS Prodigy® platform, demonstrating high purity and functionality across two production sites.
  • Results confirmed a sufficient expansion and activation capability of the CAR T cells, revealing interindividual differences in their response, thereby supporting the effectiveness of the CliniMACS Prodigy® for decentralized CAR T cell manufacturing.

Purpose: In Germany, approximately one-third of the harvested donor corneas are not suitable for transplantation, mostly due to insufficient endothelial cell density (ECD). The ECD can only be reliably determined after harvesting and processing of the cornea. Our group has previously developed a predictive model for corneal ECD: \( {Predicted\, ECD} = 2919-6^{\ast}\;{age}\; [{years}]-189\; [{if\, male}]\\ -7^{\ast}\;{death-to-explantation\, interval\,} [{hours}]\\ - 378\; [{if\, pseudophakic}] \;{cells/mm}^2 \).

Article Synopsis
  • - A global trend is shifting outpatient procedures, including sleeve gastrectomy (SG), to ambulatory surgical settings, but more research is needed to confirm safety before broad implementation.
  • - This study focuses on collecting data from 365 patients who underwent outpatient laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, ensuring it meets the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery’s criteria for safety.
  • - Results showed low complication rates (1.6%) and no reported mortalities, indicating that same-day discharge after SG can be safe for carefully selected patients in experienced medical centers.
