Sex Differences in Human Brain Structure at Birth.

Background: Sex differences in human brain anatomy have been well-documented, though remain significantly underexplored during early development. The neonatal period is a critical stage for brain development and can provide key insights into the role that prenatal and early postnatal factors play in shaping sex differences in the brain.

Methods: Here, we assessed on-average sex differences in global and regional brain volumes in 514 newborns aged 0-28 days (236 birth-assigned females and 278 birth-assigned males) using data from the developing Human Connectome Project.

Patient perceptions of genetic counselors' role and emotional support needs in adults with Parkinson's disease.

One of the roles of a genetic counselor, when returning genetic test results for Parkinson's disease (PD), is to provide emotional support to the patient. However, whether or not these needs are being met in the genetic counseling setting is unknown. In this cross-sectional qualitative study, semi-structured interviews with 15 PD research participants were conducted to evaluate their emotional needs and expectations throughout the genetic counseling process.

Development of Nurse Practitioner Student Self-Perception of Clinical Reasoning and Diagnostic Ability.

Nurse practitioner faculty identified student struggles to gain diagnostic reasoning competence. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing developed a clinical judgment action model (CJAM) for the NCLEX (NextGen) that can be used in prelicensure nursing education to design educational interventions and has potential applicability toward diagnostic reasoning development in nurse practitioner students. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the impact of a didactic education intervention aligned with the CJAM on the development of clinical reasoning cognitive skills.

Sex and age differences in "theory of mind" across 57 countries using the English version of the "Reading the Mind in the Eyes" Test.

The "Reading the Mind in the Eyes" Test (Eyes Test) is a widely used assessment of "theory of mind." The NIMH Research Domain Criteria recommends it as one of two tests for "understanding mental states." Previous studies have demonstrated an on-average female advantage on the Eyes Test.
