Introduction: The cerebellar response has been studied for years with different models of alteration of other brain structures to understand its complex functioning and its relationship with the rest of the body. Studies in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) showed that the cerebellar function is modified by deficit of the basal ganglia; which supports the hypothesis that both structures are related anatomically and functionally.

Methods: In our study, the ventrolateral striatum (VLS) of the basal ganglia was altered by an electrolytic lesion, in order to produce a similar jaw frequency of jaw tremor movements presented in parkinsonism, thereafter we analyzed the effect of the lesion on the expression of multiunit activity (MUA) of the cerebellum.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic hepatitis D (CHD) affects about 5% of hepatitis B patients in Spain, with a significant portion having pre-existing conditions like cirrhosis and coinfections.
  • A study involving 329 patients revealed that 62% tested positive for HDV-RNA and that persistence of this viremia is linked to faster liver disease progression, with one-third already having cirrhosis at diagnosis.
  • Key challenges in managing these patients include delays in accessing new antiviral treatments and difficulties in accurately assessing HDV-RNA levels locally.

Article Synopsis
  • The cerebellum plays a crucial role in regulating motor, cognitive, social, and emotional functions by interacting with other brain structures to support automatic behaviors and predictive mechanisms across various tasks, including reward-related activities.
  • It encodes important signals related to reward prediction and temporal changes, influenced by chemical changes in catecholamines, which assist in cognitive learning and complex behavior modulation.
  • Recent research highlights the cerebellum's involvement in mood disorders and addiction, as it helps manage reward sensitivity and loss aversion, while also predicting behavioral outcomes based on past experiences, which can affect social interactions and impulse control.

Background And Aim Of The Study: There are still patients with hepatitisC in Spain who have yet to be diagnosed, but their clinical profile is unclear. In 2021, 21.93% of patients diagnosed had cirrhosis and were mostly treatment-naïve.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the prevalence of osteoporosis and fragility fractures in patients with liver cirrhosis (LC) and determine the associated risk factors, evaluating the usefulness of FRAX as a screening method to identify patients at a higher risk of fracture.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Demographic, clinical, and analytical data were collected in a randomized sample of LC patients attending the Hepatology Department of a university hospital.
